Information message about sensitive earthquake in Dagestan on September 29, 2005.

     Sensitive earthquake with intensity in epicenter 5-6 MSK has happened on September 29, 2005 at 01:4 GMT (5:14 AM Moscow Time) in the region of mountain Dagestanна being part of Eastern Caucasus.
     Parameters of the earthquake have been determined in the Alert Service (AS) of Information Processing Center (IPC) of Geophysical Survey of RAS in Obninsk with station data obtained from digital and analog seismic stations of Russia, countries of CIS and from abroad. Alert message on this earthquake has been delivered in 2 ÷ 0 min after registration to the Ministry of Emergency of the Russian Federation (EMERCOM).
     Preliminary processing has been done with data from 9 stations, accurate processing - with data 13 stations.
     Fig. 1 presents fragments of records obtained from the nearest digital stations: Mahachkala (delta 110 km), Garni (delta 330 km), Kuba-Taba (delta 410 km), Shiddjamataz (delta 460 km), Kislovodsk (delta 470 km).

  • Epicenter
         Epicenter of this earthquake was located in the mountainous low populated part of Dagestan between mountain ridges Harhaltabek and Archalavar. This region is known as highly sesmoactive area, where the earthquakes with magnitudes up to 5.5 have been registered before. Last significant earthquake has happened here on December 2, 2000 (fig.2) in the place a slightly to the North-West from the earthquake reported here. The earthquake on December 2 had magnitude 4.6 and was felt with intensity up to 5-6 MSK in the settlements Mugi (Akushansk region), Chuni (Levashinsk region), Akusha; Kumukh, Levashi with intensity 4-5 MSK; Sergokala 4 MSK; Urkarakh, Karabudahkent 3 MSK; Gunib, Manas, Mahachkala, Buinaksk 2-3 MSK.
