Information message about Nizhnekubansk earthquake happened on November 9, 2002

     On November 9, 2002 in the region of Low Kuban (Krasnodar region, nearly 50 km to the North-East from Anapa town) sensative earthquake has been detected. It occured at 05 hours 18 minutes Moscow time (02:18am GMT).
     Parameters of the earthquake have been determined in the Alert Service (AS) of Information Processing Center (IPC) of Geophysical Survey of RAS in Obninsk with station data obtained from digital and analog seismic stations of Russia, countries of CIS and from abroad. Alert message on this earthquake has been delivered in 50 min after registration to the Ministry of Emergency of the Russian Federation (EMERCOM).
      Preliminary summary processing has been done with data from 17 stations, accurate processing - with data from 44 stations of Russia, Ukraine, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Bulgaria, Rominia, France, Switzerland. It is necessary to note, that accurate parameters are confirmed by determinations at the close to event stations (delta 50 - 750 km).
      Figure 1 represents fragments of three component records at digital stations: Anapa (delta 50 km), Sochi (delta 200 km), Kislovodsk (delta 400 km).

     IPC GS RAS also has obtained information with parameters of this event from some seismological centers, these data are given in table 1:

          THe earthquake has happened on November 9, 2002. It was felt on the vast territory of Krasnodar region: Anapa, Krimsk, Urovka with intensity - 5-6 MSK, Novorossiysk - 5 MSK, Krasnodar - 4-5 MSK, Helendjik, Belorechensk, Slaviansk-on-Kuban, Temruk, Maikop - 3 MSK. There is no information about victims or distractions.
    Historical records
          This earthquake has occured in origin area of well known historical earthquake on October 9, 1879, which had intensity 7 MSK. Magnitude of that historical event made М=5.7 [1]. The earthquake of 1879 was felt within the whole territory of Nizhnekubansk area, up to Cremea. Locations of these events hypocenters are given on figure 2 along with known origins of this area from ancient times till now.
