Information message about sensitive earthquake on the Kamchatka Peninsula, October 2, 2014.

The sensitive earthquake M=6 has occurred on the Kamchatka Peninsul on October 2, 2014 at 12:57 GMT (16:57 Moscow time).
Parameters of the earthquake have been determined in the Alert Service (AS) of Information Processing Center (IPC) of Geophysical Survey of RAS in Obninsk with station data obtained from digital and analog seismic stations of Russia, countries of CIS and from abroad. Alert message on this earthquake has been delivered in 15 min after registration to the Ministry of Emergency of the Russian Federation (EMERCOM).
Preliminary processing has been done with data from 60 stations, accurate processing - with data 66 stations.
     Fig. 1 presents fragments of records obtained from digital stations Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy (∆ 0.8º), Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy Array (∆ 0.8º), Magadan (∆ 8.3º), Seimchan (∆ 11º), Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk (∆ 11.2º). Fig. 2 presents fragments of records obtained from digital stations Yakutsk (∆ 18º), Ussuriysk (∆ 19º), Matsushiro (∆ 21.1º), Tiksi (∆ 23.3º), Hailar (∆ 24.2º).

Fig.3 presents with red star epicenter of this earthquake which origin was located in the southeastern part of the Kamchatka Peninsula, at a depth of 150 km, 95 km S-W of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy, 123 km E-S-E of Oktyabrsky and 225 km N-E of Severo-Kurilsk.

    Macroseismic manifestations
According to GS RAS this earthquake was felt in Severo-Kurilsk with intensity 4 MSK and in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy with intensity 3-4 MSK.
Focal mechanism and seismic moment of the earthquake
Focal mechanism was calculated in IPC GS RAS with signs of initial arrivals of P-waves at 68 stations, including 41 stations which registered compression waves (the plus sign) and 27 stations which registered tensile waves (minus signs). These stations are located in the interval of epicentral distances 0,7–77º , azimuths 11-351º. The focal mechanism in stereographic projection at the lower hemisphere is presented at fig. 4, elements of this mechanism are presented in table 2. Figures 5, 6 present focal mechanism solutions obtained in USGS NEIC with W-phase Moment Tensor (Mww) technique and in Quick CMT Center with CMT technique. Elements of mechanism are presented in table 2. Solutions according to the different centers are identical. This earthquake has occurred under the action of close in value stresses of compression and tension (Pl=38-50º). All solutions contain vertical NP1 (DP=84-90º) and flat NP2 (DP=3-12º) nodal planes. NP1 plane strikes S-S-W (STK=187º) and N-E (STK=30-31º). NP2 plane strikes in a nearly latitudinal direction (STK=77º) in IPC GS RAS solution and S-E–N-W direction (STK=141, 292º) in USGS and Quick CMT solutions. The type of motion along both planes – slip, for vertical plane NP1 this is vertical slip, for flat NP2 plane these is slip with overthrusts component. According to USGS – Mo=5.29*10**17 N*m, Mw=5.7 and according to Quick CMT – Mo=5.79*10**17 N*m, Mw=5.8.
