Information message about the earthquake on February 18, 2001 in Dagestan |
| On February 18, 2001 at 18:30 Moscow time (15:30 GMT) sensative earthquake has happened in the eastern part of Dagestan, in Gerbergilsky region. From ITAR-TASS message intensity of the earthquake reached 4 MSK, no victims or destructions have been observed. |
| Parameters of the earthquake
have been determined in the Alert Service (AS) of Information
Processing Center (IPC) of Geophysical Survey of RAS in Obninsk with station data
obtained from digital and analog seismic stations of Russia, countries of CIS
and from abroad. Alert message on this earthquake has been delivered in 60 min after
registration to the Ministry of Emergency of the Russian Federation (EMERCOM). |
| Preliminary summary processing of this earthquake was done with data from 14 stations, improved calculation - with data from 22 stations. Besides that, getting parameters of the origin was done with data from 14 regional stations of Caucasus (see table 1), including data from Dagestanian (Hunzah, Gunib, Botlih, Dubki, Dilim) and Azerbajanian stations (Zakatali, Sheki, Giandzha and Baku), which were obtained from Republican Center of seismological service of Academy of Sciences of Azerbajan. In this case the local velocity model of the Earth's crust and upper matle has been used for getting coordinates of hypocenter .

| Figures 1-2 contain fragmetes of records obtained by IPC from digital stations in a close to real time mode and records registered by survey points of radio telemetric system of data acquisition at Kavminvodsky geodinamics test area (fig.3).

| Macroseismic manifestations |
| Hypocenter of this earthquake was located in Gergebilsky region at the east of Dagestan. It was felt in Levashi settlement with intensity 4 MSK, in Mahachkala, Azberbash, Buinaksk, Gergebile, Dubki, Hunzahe with intencity 2- 3 MSK.
