Information message about sensitive earthquake in Amur region on October 14, 2011

The sensitive earthquake with M=6.1 has occurred on October 14, 2011 at 6:10am GMT (10:10am Moscow time) in Amur region.
Parameters of the earthquake have been determined in the Alert Service (AS) of Information Processing Center (IPC) of Geophysical Survey of RAS in Obninsk with station data obtained from digital and analog seismic stations of Russia, countries of CIS and from abroad. Alert message on this earthquake has been delivered in 14 min after registration to the Ministry of Emergency of the Russian Federation (EMERCOM).
Preliminary processing has been done with data from 65 stations, accurate processing - with data 81 stations.
     Fig. 1 presents fragments of records obtained from digital stations Yakutsk (∆ 8.6º), Ulan-Bator (∆ 12.2º), Talaya (∆ 12.4º), Mys Shultsa (∆ 12.5º), Tiksi (∆ 17.8º). Fig. 2 presents fragments of records obtained from digital stations Borovoe (∆ 31.2º), Arti (∆ 36º), Obninsk (∆ 47.3º), Kislovodsk (∆ 51.3º), Garni (∆ 52.9º).

  • Epicenter
Fig. 3 presents epicenter of this earthquake with red star, it's origin was located on the territory of Amur Region at the depth of 15 km, 13 km W of Skovorodino, 139 km S-W of Tynda, 265 km E-N-E of Mogocha, 490 km N-W of Blagoveschensk.

    Macroseismic manifestations
In accordance with RIA-Novosti the town Skovorodion of Amur Region which was the nearest settlement to the epicenter was left without electricity for some time because the wall of one boiling station has fallen down. No victims were registered. In accordance with EMERCOM this earthquake was felt in Skovorodino with intensity 6 MSK, in Tynda - with intensity 5 MSK, in Chita with intensity 4-5 MSK, in Mogocha, Magdagachi with intensity 4 MSK, in Krasnokamensk and Priargunsk with intensity 2 MSK.
Focal mechanism and seismic moment of the earthquake
Focal solution of this earthquake which occurred on Octobeer 14, 2011 at 06:10 GMT was calculated by NEIC USA, USGS with moment centroid technique. Focal solution in stereographic projection at the lower hemisphere is presented in figure 3, elements of this solution is presented in table 2. The earthquake has occurred under almost equal compression and expansion forces oriented N-E and S-E respectively. The type of motion in origin – for steeply falling NP1 plane of latitudional orientation is left lateral strike slip, for laying flat NP2 plane of meridional orientation – right lateral slip. Seismic moment of this earthquake which occurred on October 14, 2011 in accordance with USGS makes Мо=1.8*10**18 N*m, the value of moment magnitude makes Mw=6.1.
