Information message about technogenic earthquake in Murmansk Region on October 21, 2010

     Technogenic earthquake with M=4.1 has occurred on October 21, 2010 at 8:10 GMT (12:10 Moscow time) in Murmansk region.
     Preliminary processing has been done with data from 19 stations, accurate processing - with data 20 stations.
     Fig. 1 presents fragments of three component records obtained digital station Lovozero (∆ 0.6º). Fig. 2 presents fragments of records obtained from digital stations Arti (∆ 16º), Kiev (∆ 16.9º), Borovoe (∆ 22.7º).

     IPC GS RAS also has obtained information with parameters of this event from some seismological centers, these data are given in table 1:

  • Epicenter
         Fig.3 presents with red star epicenter of this earthquake which was obtained in accordance with data from GS RAS, yellow star is epicenter which was obtained in accordance with data from Kola Branch of GS RAS. Technogenic earthquake has occurred in the region of apatite mine by the name of S.M. Kirov in Hibiny (town block Kukisvumchorr of Kirovsk town) and probably it was caused by energy release from induced strengths inside the rock massive, as a result of mine excavation activity in the region.

    Macroseismic manifestations
         This earthquake was felt in Kirovsk town with intensity of 4-5 MSK, in Apatity town with intensity of 3 MSK.
