The next issue of The Russian Journal of Seismology (Vol. 5, No. 3) has been published. The issue contains articles by Russian and foreign scientists. The works of domestic researchers were sent from scientific organizations in different regions of Russia.

The issue opens with a permanent semi-annual article “Global earthquakes in the 2023 first half according to the GS RAS” (authors: Yu.A. Vinogradov,M.I. Ryzhikova,S.G. Poygina, N.V.Petrova,M.V.Kolomiets), which provides information about the seismicity of the Earth in the first half of 2023, as well as about earthquakes felt on the territory of the Russian Federation according to the Alert Service of the Geophysical Survey RAS. It is noted that the seismic energy released on the globe for the 2023 first half increased relative to similar values for the 2022 first and second half, coming close to the average half-year value for the period 2010-2022.

Next comes the memorial work “Seismotectonics of sources of strong earthquakes in the Caucasus: Results of studies by Evgeny Alexandrovich Rogozhin” Colleagues of E.A. Rogozhin at the IPE RAS (A.N. Ovsyuchenko, A.S. Larkov, N.V. Andreeva, R.N. Lukashova) summarized the results of a consistent and versatile study of the seismotectonics of source zones of strong modern earthquakes in the Caucasus under the guidance and with the participation of E.A. Rogozhin.

The third article “Control of the technical condition of buildings and structures on permafrost soils by the changes in the frequencies of natural vibrations (according to seismic monitoring of a pile-type building – the Palace of culture of Norilsk)”, written by colleagues from the Seismological branch of the Geophysical Survey RAS (authors: E.E. Kosyakina, A.V. Liseikin, P.V. Gromyko, V.S. Seleznev), explores the relationship between temperature fluctuations and changes in the natural frequencies of a pile-type engineering structure located on permafrost soils in connection with the development of methods for monitoring the technical condition of similar structures.

A team of authors (A.M. Muraliev, F.S. Abdyldaeva, M. Seitaliev, A.V. Berezina, G.A. Sabirova) from the Institute of Seismology of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic presented the work “Development of seismic monitoring in Kyrgyzstan”, which provided data on the republican network of seismic stations continuously operating on the territory of the republic.

The following article written by K.Yu. Silkin, “A neural network expert system that allows assessing the quality of the algorithm for choosing the parameters of optimal removal of low-frequency noise from seismograms using the fingerprint method” presents a summary of a series of scientific publications devoted to the use of the fingerprint method in seismology as a means of analyzing and processing records of explosions and earthquakes. As a result, a complex of deep neural networks is presented, designed to estimate the parameters of an optimal low-frequency noise filter using fingerprints.

The section of scientific articles of the issue is closed by the work “Modern geodynamic systems of the Urals in relation to seismicity”, presented by Moscow colleagues from (authors V.M. Makeev, E.A. Pikulik, S.N. Nikitin, I.V. Korobova) Institute of IEG RAS and IPE RAS. It describes research into the study of modern geodynamic systems of the Urals in connection with the Katav-Ivanovo medium-magnitude earthquake that occurred in 2018.
