The next issue of The Russian Journal of Seismology (Vol. 4, No. 4) has been published. The issue contains articles by Russian researchers from Obninsk, Syktyvkar, St. Petersburg, Makhachkala, Voronezh and Magadan, devoted to solving a wide range of theoretical, experimental, methodological and applied problems of seismology, seismotectonics, information processing, observation methods, etc.
The first article of the issue (authors: Yu.V. Gabsatarov, I.S. Vladimirova, I.A. Sdelnikova) is devoted to the actual problem of import substitution of technologies and methods for conducting satellite geodetic measurements in conditions of limited resources. This will keep the leading position of FRC CS RAS in the field of geodynamic monitoring.
In the article by A.G. Epifansky, L.G. Dulentsova proposes a new model of the focal zone of crustal earthquakes, which consists of a set of small independent sources. In this regard, it is proved that it is impossible to represent the model of the focus of a tectonic crustal event in the form of a continuously developing discontinuity in the crustal material, which begins at a single point due to the fact that the ripping velocity exceeds the P-wave velocity.
The third article (authored by K.Yu. Silkin) offers an example of an improvement in the currently actively developing technology of fingerprints used in the identification of records of seismic events of various nature. The possibility of using the proposed technology for the analysis of seismograms using machine learning methods is substantiated.
An article by our colleague from Syktyvkar N.N. Noskova is devoted to a description of an infrequent event that recently took place in the Komi Republic - a tectonic earthquake that occurred on August 6, 2022 in the zone of the West Timan thrust. The article describes the method of processing seismograms and identifying this event, gives a geodynamic interpretation of the conditions for its occurrence.
In the fifth article (authors N.M. Panas, B.A. Assinovskaya, St. Petersburg), two swarms of weak tectonic and anthropogenic earthquakes that occurred on the southeastern slope of the Fennoscandian shield in 2009–2019 are studied. The dynamic parameters of these events have been obtained and analyzed, and the features of the flow of seismotectonic processes associated with it have been estimated.
A large group of scientists from Makhachkala (first co-author Kh.D. Magomedov) described in detail the history of the development of seismological observations in the Republic of Dagestan, presented an overview of the state and achievements in the development of the regional network of seismological observations, outlined the directions and importance of its further improvement.
The block of scientific articles of the issue is closed by an article by researchers from Magadan (first co-author E.I. Aleshina), devoted to the presentation of the results of detailed seismic zoning and seismic microzoning in the area of the Kolyma HPP, as a result of which the nature of possible earthquake sources near this energy facility was revealed. It is proved that the estimated seismicity here was 8 points with a return period of 1 time in 5000 years.
